The Winter Olympics Events To Watch This Week

The Winter Olympics have officially landed, transforming Italy into the centre of the sporting world as Milano Cortina 2026 gets underway. Running from 6–22 February 2026, and kicking off with an opening performance from none other than Mariah Carey, this year’s Games span Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo and a series of Alpine venues across northern Italy, bringing the best of winter sport to some of Europe’s most storied mountain landscapes.

As ever, the competition is fierce. Norway enters as the nation to beat, already taking home medals in cross-country skiing, speed skating and ski jumping. Japan has impressed in snowboarding, and Italy is performing particularly well on home soil. Meanwhile Germany, the USA, Canada, Austria and Switzerland are all tipped for success later in the schedule. Expect tight podium battles, record-breaking performances and more than a few surprises as the medals start to be decided.

Although, with so many events packed into just over two weeks, it’s unlikely most of us will be able to watch them all. So, from high-speed downhill runs to endurance-driven biathlon relays, below are the medal events to keep a closer eye on.
