Struggle To Sleep During Flights? This Private Jet Company Has The Solution

Luxury travel is shifting its focus from champagne to circadian rhythms, and Matteo Atti shares why he’s leading the charge.

I’ve worked with ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) my entire career — from marketing strategies for fashion brands such as Gucci and Bottega Veneta to my current role as Global Chief Marketing Officer at Vista, the largest on-demand private aviation group in the world. So, I am always researching what brands can do to make UHNWIs’ lives easier, smoother and more rewarding. The current answer? Let them sleep.

Pushed by the speed of technological change, the pace of life has accelerated and is now often out of sync with the human body’s natural rhythm. According to recent McKinsey research, two-thirds of global executives are dissatisfied with how much they sleep and 55% with their rest quality — highlighting sleep as one of the most undervalued assets in leadership performance. When we surveyed the sleep patterns of VistaJet Members — from business leaders flying to multiple countries each week to multi-generational families on vacation — we found that over 58% of our flights crossed multiple time zones (that’s a lot of jet lag!) and 91% of our frequent travellers would pay more for sleep-enhancing travel features.

Add to this the fact that sleep tourism is currently valued at over £56 billion and is set to double by 2030, and it’s clear that sleep when travelling is no longer about stealing a quick shut-eye during a flight, but a serious commodity — a necessity for both business trips and family holidays. Everyone needs proper, intentional rest to be able to perform.

With this in mind, we introduced the first-ever Sleep Program in private aviation and brought together best-in-class experts to create it. We partnered with longevity and health specialist Peter Attia, MD — founder of Medicine 3.0 — alongside VistaJet’s in-house nutritionists and a team of specially trained Cabin Hosts. Together, they curated a programme that applies scientific principles of recovery, circadian alignment and cognitive performance to transform a flight into a restorative advantage. Attia puts it best: “Sleep is a critical component of health, performance, and longevity — yet it is often the first thing disrupted by travel. By creating an environment where light, rest, and recovery are carefully shaped to support circadian alignment, travelling becomes a restorative experience instead of a disruptive one.”

In practice, this means curated sleep menus and tips from Dr Attia, bespoke menus to monitor what you consume before and after sleep, guided meditation, breathing exercises, ambient lighting, cosy pyjamas, personalised temperature control, sleep masks, pre- and post-sleep services and skin recovery creams. Plus, my favourite feature: the Soleil Lighting System,  a revolutionary dynamic daylight simulation that helps align your circadian rhythm with your destination’s time zone — a powerful combatant against jet lag.

While all of these elements enhance power naps, short sleep windows and deeper REM cycles, for longer-haul flights up to 17 hours non-stop, our flagship Bombardier Global 7500 aircraft features reduced cabin pressure — from 40,000ft to the equivalent of 4,000ft altitude — as well as permanent bed setups. And we also offer specialist sleep services for families, young children and pets.

Add to this our partnerships with sleep-focused destinations worldwide, offering high-intensity biofeedback sessions, full-moon yoga, floating meditations and more — and it’s clear that sleep really is the priority. We’ve already seen a significant surge in interest from customers, demonstrating once again that UHNWIs, and, truly, all of us, need meaningful rest.

And the destination currently at the top of my list? The Zulal Wellness Resort in Qatar, where traditional Arabic and Islamic medicine meets cutting-edge modern science.
