10 Simple Tricks To Help You Stick To Your Wellness Goals

If you’ve set yourself big health goals this year, consider this your cheat sheet for how to actually stick to them.

Sticking to your wellness New Year’s resolutions is less about willpower and more about choosing realistic goals from the beginning. With that in mind, here are some simple steps that are sure to help you succeed (all of which I use myself).

1. Small wins build consistency, and consistency builds motivation, helping you feel accomplished along the way.

2. ‘Habit stacking’ is a term I recently learned, and it involves pairing a new habit with something you already do. This works well because our brains thrive on routine. For example, after you get your coffee, go and get your 10,000 steps in. Or wear your red light mask while you put your legs up on the wall.

3. Design your environment for ease. If it’s too complicated, you won’t stick to it, especially during these dark, wintry months. Lay out your gym clothes the night before, avoid buying unhealthy snacks, and keep nourishing foods on display.

4. Schedule time for your new habits. Blocking out your calendar is crucial for maintaining your resolutions. For example, if every Monday night is dance class, that routine quickly becomes second nature.

5. Share your wellness resolutions with family and friends, or even on social media (I mean, if you didn’t post it, did it happen?). This keeps you accountable, and if motivation dips, be open with your support network. You’ll often find strength in their encouragement.

6. Plan for potential setbacks by staying one step ahead of challenges. Learn the tools you’ll need to handle obstacles that will inevitably arise. Reset, recharge, and pivot when needed.

7. Track your progress in a simple way. Tracking builds awareness and accountability. Mark a calendar or journal each time you complete one of your resolutions. In a year’s time, you’ll be able to look back and beam with pride at how far you’ve come.

8. Celebrate consistency, not intensity, and give yourself grace. Some workouts or meals won’t go to plan, and that’s okay. Don’t feel defeated, just get back on track when you can. Plan for off days and don’t let one slip-up derail you completely.

9. Find your why. Dig deep and connect with your intention behind each resolution. The more meaning and purpose it holds, the easier it will be to stay committed.

10. Recognise the small milestones. Every step forward deserves to be celebrated and should make you feel proud.

With these tips, along with determination and discipline, your 2026 wellness resolutions won’t know what hit them. Here’s to a healthier, happier New Year!
